Smile! Our brand new Dental Health Bus is on the road, bringing dental education and preventative care to high-need elementary schools and community sites across the city.

Because oral health is central to overall health, in 2013 we launched The Alex Dental Health Bus to support underserved students and communities. After 10 years on the road, we screened more than 1000 students and educated more than 2500 students annually.

We retired the old bus and were fortunate enough to be able to custom build a new one to enhance our service to the community.

Our new bus is fun and bright, putting people at ease and conveying the message that The Alex’s Dental Health Bus is a welcoming place. The bus features two dental examination rooms where our hygienists take amazing care of each patient.

“The goal isn’t to have people rely on us – we are here to educate, prevent and recognize dental problems in the short term, and help build relationships between dentists and the community in the long term,”

Shannon Hawryluk
Dental Health Program Lead

Over the last decade, we have been on the road supporting 6 – 24 year olds, helping Calgary families discover dental care providers in their local area, and building a referral system with the Dental Access Network (DAN). This highly collaborative approach aims to ensure that kids get regular check-ups and cleanings and that those with the most urgent needs are taken care of before they need emergency care.

Bringing smiles to high-need students and communities for more than 10 years, The Alex’s new Dental Health Bus will continue to support and educate, making the community sparkle with strong relationships and great oral health.

Together, there is nothing but possibility.

We can strengthen our community. We can tackle tough health and social issues, walking alongside people from crisis to wellness and from challenge to change.
