Sarah and James’ Story
A family of six – Sarah and James and their four children, ages 5 to 15 – live simply on AISH and the Canada Child Tax Credit. Every month is a balancing act to meet basic needs, with no room for extras. When unexpected costs arise, it’s often the food budget that takes the hit.
Over the years, they’ve leaned on The Alex for support: receiving gift cards, attending community meals, and enjoying the rare treat of a sit-down dinner during Family Night at the Community Food Centre.
They’re especially grateful for the subsidized Good Food Box, which allows them to provide fresh produce for their kids. Their children recently joined a family cooking class, and they’re hoping for more kid-friendly sessions that promote healthy eating in a fun, social way. And with ongoing support from The Alex’s dietitian, James is managing chronic health conditions.
After nearly a decade, Sarah, James, and their family feel seen, respected, and truly supported.
