Maya’s Journey
When 16-year-old Maya first connected with the RAAM Program at The Alex, she was struggling in nearly every area of her life. Substance use had distanced her from school, family and herself, while depression and frequent emergency room visits related to suicidal ideation left her future feeling uncertain. Ongoing involvement with the legal system added to the instability she was experiencing at such a young age.
Through consistent care, connection and support from the team at The Alex, Maya gradually began rebuilding trust in herself and finding stability again. Over time, small steps forward became meaningful milestones. One of her proudest moments came when she shared that she had earned an 82% on her diploma exam – an achievement that once felt impossible.
Today, Maya continues to maintain sobriety and is beginning to imagine a future filled with possibility, including pursuing college or university. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with compassionate support and access to care, healing and hope are possible.
