Health on Wheels
The Alex operates two mobile health units; The Alex Health Bus and the Youth Health Bus
The Alex health bus is a mobile health unit. In operation since 2002, the health bus removes barriers to health care by providing direct services, education and advocacy free of charge. Bus clients have historically encountered many difficulties when attempting to access health care and support services, one of which is transportation to specific medical offices.
Services Include:
- Assessments and follow-up care including full check-ups, and mental health assessments and
- Referrals to specialists and community resources
- Education and health promotion
- Pregnancy tests and prenatal care

The Alex partners with many other organizations in Calgary that have clients who are dealing with other issues in their lives and are unable to address their health care needs. These partnerships are key to our success in providing care to the support of the community.
Youth Health Bus
Assisting in a crisis, someone to talk to and non-judgemental support
The Youth Health Bus was launched on January 25, 2012 with Premier Alison Redford and her Ministers.
The Alex Youth Health Bus specifically targets youth who have difficulty accessing health care.
Services Include:
- Health education assessment and treatment
- STI testing, pregnancy tests, prenatal care and other serivces as needed.
- The bus staff use a holistic approach to provide physical, emotional and psychological support to Calgary youth.
We, at The Alex are so grateful for the collaborative support of the Calgary Board of Education, along with all the teachers, counsellors and nurses that help make this endeavour a success.
